Working under the supervision of the Town Engineer and Director of Public Works, the Civil Engineer has the responsibility of performing work in design, construction, and inspection of municipal public works projects; performs research and drafting work; provides information on departmental systems and policies to developers, contractors, consulting engineers, and public; designs and prepares plans, drainage calculations, specifications, and bid documents for infrastructure and civil engineering projects. Proficiency and/or familiarity with AUTOCAD, GIS(ERSI), Microsoft (WORD, EXCEL, POWER POINT), Hydraulic and other related software applications and general knowledge of building structures and related appurtenances: A.D.A., Building Codes and/or safety, required.

The education, experience and training required would generally be acquired with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of one (1) year experience, three (3) or more years’ experience, preferred, in engineering technical work (Note: work experience which includes land survey crew experience, engineering design, construction inspection and preparing cost estimates may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A State of Connecticut licensure as an Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) or Land Surveyor in Training (L.S.I.T.) required or obtained within (1) year of hire. A State of Connecticut Licensure as an Engineer (P.E.) or Land Surveyor (L.S.) preferred. Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License required.
