John Westerling is an experienced public works leader with over 30 years in various leadership roles across New England. Currently serving as the Commissioner of Public Works & Parks for the City of Worcester, Massachusetts, John brings a strong track record of implementing community-focused solutions, optimizing operational efficiencies, and managing budgets with fiscal responsibility. Prior to his role in Worcester, he served as the Director of Public Works for the Town of Natick and held similar positions in Hopkinton and West Boylston.
A dedicated public servant, John is committed to enhancing infrastructure, public spaces, and services for the communities he serves. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Master of Public Administration from Clark University. In 2023, he was recognized as one of APWA’s Top Ten Leaders of the Year in 2023. John is passionate about strengthening public works and collaborating with local teams to drive positive change.
