The YP Committee supports the APWA Strategic priority to “create opportunities for engagement of students, young professionals, and emerging leaders through new and positive experiences.”
The Committee is convened to provide more educational and professional development opportunities for younger members. It aims to connect Young Professionals (YPs) to other YPs, more experienced members, and prospective members to encourage the growth of personal and professional networks, to impart wisdom from the expertise of others, and to promote public works awareness, to provide succession planning in the public works profession.
The YP Committee holds a monthly conference call at 2:00 PM on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The Committee has four subcommittees: Membership, Programs, Communications, and Events. If interested in participating contact the committee chair for instructions on how to join and become involved!
- Membership: Engage current members, YPs, and/or prospective members, and create strategic planning and analysis as it relates to YP membership.
- Programs: Develop programs that engage and provide value to current members, YPs, and/or prospective members, such as dissemination of entry-level employment and internship opportunities and attending job fairs/colleges/high schools to engage students in public works.
- Communications: Develop and maintain clear and consistent YP communication between members, YPs, and/or prospective members through social media, email, and the YP website.
